IWD 2017 celebrated by women maximizing profit and conserving water for irrigation

About 2400 women comprising 80 groups of 30 members each from 4 LGAs of Kano converged at the Yadakwari women Farmers demonstration to join millions of women around the world to celebrate the 2017 International Women’s Day (IWD) by making a crucial water management choice, which is set to change their lives for the better.

WOFAN Conducted Training of Trainers (ToT) for WOFAN Extension team on the use of coconut shell and rice husks in producing grass and fodder , to feed livestock. Both materials are organic products that are ordinarily thrown away or classified as wastes.

Women Farmers Scale up Business with Value Addition to Their Farm Products.

After being trained for six months and graduating as entrepreneur from the Farmers Business School organized by WOFAN & ICRISAT with support from CARI/WOFAN project and USAID Ground Nut Scale up Project, 2100 women farmers who graduated from 4 LGAs of Kano state now add value to their products through improved packaging and applying financial management skills as well as measuring to scale their products.

Women Farmers in Kano, Champion Community Inputs Revolving Scheme to boost Rice Production and local consumption

Women groups trained and strengthened on improved agricultural practices and parboiling to enhance Rice and groundnut production and jerk up local consumption  as part of the WOFAN/ CARI joint  project are now championing a community inputs revolving scheme,which includes  access to certified inputs, agro-chemicals ,  protective clothing’s, irrigation  and parboiling/ oil extraction equipment, fertilizers  after they have completed a  3 months weekly training on the seasonal calendar
