| The Netherlands Ambassador to Nigeria Mr. Arie vander Wiel commended
WOFAN for initiating programs that are geared towards improving the
wellbeing of rural communities. Mr Weil gave the commendation during his
visit to Garun mallam LGA in Kano State to see for himself the
activities of some WOFAN Women Groups who are engaged in processing and
packaging of rice and other farm produce including vegetables. He
expresses satisfaction with the activities of the women towards boosting
agricultural production for self reliance.

however regretted that the women are still using traditional methods of
processing, which he described as time consuming and dissipates much
energy, assuring his embassy's support towards addressing such problems
so as to improve the income and nutrition of rural households. In a
remark, executive Director of WOFAN Hajiya Salamatu Garba said apart
from empowering the women economically through mobilization and
training, WOFAN also assist communities in the areas of health,
education, provision of water and improved sanitation. Leader of the
coalition of WOFAN Groups Hajiya Ramatu Ibrahim who acknowledged the
visit of the Ambassador also express gratitude to Kano State Government
for making fertilizer available to women farmers, and called for the
sustenance of the gesture while stressing the need for the supply of
pesticides and improved cottage processing facilities to improve
farmer's productivity. |
