| In its effort to promote a better living
standard for rural communities, WOFAN constructs water supply system in
five local government Areas of Sokoto. The project co-funded by
WOFAN and USAID , was monitored upto completion, to ensure a access to
better hygiene and sanitation facilities. The LGAs are Bodinga, Kware,
Shagari,Silame and Wammako.
 

The construction comprises of boreholes, hand
pumps; concrete slab and drains. The people in the areas have already
started using the Boreholes
after they have been tested. Hundreds of thousands in the local government areas have now
access to safe drinking water. This will reduce the level of hydro
illnesses, mortality rate, mainly among children, as well as the
improvement of sanitation and hygiene in the communities, among other
benefits.
 
In another development, WOFAN also constructed Ventilated Improved Pit( VIP)
Latrines with rain harvesters for hand washing for Schools and Clinics
in the same local government areas. This helps reduce health hazards and improve quality of
community health and hygiene.
