With the present context of climate change already
affecting rural farmers mostly in the aspect of production and shelter,
WOFAN has carefully outlined its key approaches to aid farmers in the
pursuit of food security and livelihood improvement, and to better
prepare farmers against future challenges of climate change. The planned
approaches include the following:
- Mobilization and training of resource
poor rural farmers on mixed farming and diversification to promote food
and capital security.
- Mobilization and facilitation of
farmers exchange visits between regions to foster communication and
promote indigenous technology transfer and adoption.
- Packaging of gender focused Agric
programs and projects to empower rural households.
- Mobilization of Women and Men farmers
into adult literacy programs.
- Promotion of indigenous and adoptable
conservation production practices.
- Promotion of large scale irrigation
crop production in areas with irrigation facilities to cushion the
challenges and uncertainties attributed to rain fed production.
- Establishment of integrated farmstead
where young rural farmers will be empowered trough tailored courses of
short term durations.
- Advocacy and intervention on
improving farmer's access to simple improved cottage processing and
storage facility to optimize utilization of farm produce.
