For consistently contributing to the development of
Ungogo Local government in particular and other parts of Kano State in
general, the Women Farmers Advancement Network (WOFAN) has received yet
another prestigious award from an organ of the Kano state government.
The award came recently in the form of a
Certificate of Appreciation, which was issued to WOFAN by Ungogo Local
Government Educational Authority (LGEA) on behalf of the State Universal
Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Kano State Government, in
recognition of organization’s outstanding contributions to the
educational development of schools in the LGA and across the state.

According to the LGEA, WOFAN is not just another
contributor; the organization has become the most consistent contributor
to positive change in the state through the development of schools in
the local government area and beyond.
In the certificate, which was signed by the LGA
Education Secretary, Alhaji Nasiru H. Iliyasu and the Mobilization
Officer, Shehu Dan-Iya, the LGEA confirmed that, “In a recent
survey on Community/NGO/ efficiency towards Schools development
carried out by the LGEA during the 2010/2011, WOFAN was found to be the
most consistent contributing agent in our Local Government.”
The LGEA further declared that WOFAN’s efforts and
contributions to the development of the LGA and the State demonstrate
the organization’s “high sense of patriotism, responsibility and
obligation to voluntarily serve the nation as acknowledge by LGEA...”
WOFAN'S intervention in schools across
Northern Nigeria include educational development services in various
areas like building of toilets, construction of boreholes, provision of
school furniture and rehabilitation works in primary schools across the
region.
The intervention in these schools aim at
improving enrolment and school retention through the provision of basic
amenities which in turn improve physical and psychological wellbeing of
the children as well as the learning environment.
