R-Box is a conservation tillage rice production technology pack that was
researched and developed by the CANDEL Company in 2003. To aid food
security of rural dwellers in Maradi State of Niger Republic. WOFAN and
CANDEL trough the Governor of Maradi, introduced R-Box to the farmers in
Maradi. To facilitate adoption of R-Box technology and ensure farmers
confidence on the package, R-Box is presently being tried with
irrigation on a one hectare demonstration plot in Djiratawa community of
Maradi where farmers have access to irrigation all year round. The
demonstration plot is being managed in collaboration with Djiratawa
farmers trained on the technology pack by WOFAN and CANDEL.
  
Components of R-Box are:
1. Seedrex: a seed dressing chemical to treat rice seed before planting.
2. Roundup: a total systemic herbicide that kill weeds to the root
before planting.
3. 15 Kg of rice seed: each box has 15 Kg seed, 4 boxes are needed for a
hectare.
4. Orizoplus: a selective rice herbicide applied 3-4 weeks after
planting.
